History of CCR

Since its inaugural broadcast on 31st July 1995, Cork Campus Radio 98.3FM has developed and maintained a unique programme schedule, catering for a diversity of needs and interests reflecting student and community issues and concerns. The station produces a 60%speech / 40% music weekly broadcast output throughout Cork city and its environs, from purpose-built studios at Áras na MacLéinn, UCC, from 08.00am - 17.30pm Monday-Friday, fifty weeks of the year, in accordance with the licence granted by the BCI (Broadcasting Commission of Ireland).

The station broadcasts on campus - in the multi-functional Devere Hall, as well as via the internet (www.ucc.ie/ccr), and a 30 mile radius around Cork.

  • Glór na nGael / Duais Choimisiún Craolacháin na hÉireann 2005 – for supporting the Irish Language (presented to Catriona Chambers).
  • Justice Media Award 2004 – for A Life Without Liberty – our 6-part series documenting life in Cork Prison (produced by Catriona Chambers and Kieran Hurley).
  • Radio Production of the Year Award - Oxygen Student Media Awards 2003 for Europa, our European Affairs programme - (presented to Dave Kelly).
  • Radio Production of the Year Award - Oxygen Student Media Awards 2002 for Get That Monster Off The Stage, a documentary on Cork band Five Go Down To The Sea - (presented to Paul McDermott).
  • Radio Station of the Year Award - Oxygen Student Media Awards 2001 - (presented to Kieran Hurley).
  • HotPress FairPlay for Airplay Award 2002 - (presented to Kieran Hurley).
  • Justice Media Award 1998 - for An Execution of Ideals, a documentary on Death Row prisoners in Texas - (presented to Sinéad Wylde & Keith Farnan).
  • ESB National Media Award 1998 - for One Night Stand, a documentary on HIV/AIDS - (presented to Claire O'Sullivan & Sinéad Wylde).
  • Environmental Awareness Award 1996 - Department of the Environment - (presented to Sinéad Wylde).
