Hey there,
My name is Susan O’ Sullivan and I am your SEFS Rep for 2011/2012. I am 20 years old and I am a third year Biological Sciences student studying Physiology. I was lucky enough to be elected as the college representative for Science, Engineering and Food Science (SEFS) during the Students’ Union elections last March. I have been involved in the Students’ Union and Societies since the beginning of my first year in UCC; I am also a Peer Supporter to first year students. The skills I have gained from being involved in college life are invaluable I have loved every minute of it so far. I hope to use my role this year to make every students time here as fulfilling as possible and make their student experience a positive one.
The main role of my position is to represent the concerns and issues which the students of this college and its disciplines may have to both the Students’ Union and the University. As such I am here to act as link between the Sabbatical Officers of the Union and the Academic Council and committees of the University.
As college rep, I will be responsible for organising and chairing a college clinic each month. The college clinic is an open door forum that will allow for discussion of academic issues that affect you, the students of the college. It is to be attended by all of your individual class reps but attendance, input, advice, ideas and concerns are not only welcomed but encouraged from all students.
In addition I also sit on the Student Union executive, here we discuss issues that affect the student body as a whole and my job is to represent the students of the SEFS College to the best of my ability.
With regards to University representation, I sit on a number of academic boards, including Academic Council which is a meeting once a month with all senior academic staff and Student Union representatives and it is chaired by the President of the University. Here we discuss all academic issues that affect the university as a whole.
Lastly, I just want to thank you, the students, for electing me and I look forward to a challenging but hopefully rewarding year ahead. If you have any questions, concerns, ideas, or problems please do not hesitate to contact me as I am looking forward to meeting and hearing from as many of you as possible.
